Pupils have the right to a safe and good school environment, as promotedr health, inclusion, well-being and learning.
Safe and good school environment
The school must work continuously to ensure that the pupils have a safe and good school environment, and to prevent situations arising that make the pupils not feel safe and well (see chapter 12 of the Education Act).
The school must assess whether the environment promotes health, inclusion, well-being and learning by observing what effects the preventive work has on the pupils and the environment. The school can therefore carry out anonymous and non-anonymous surveys among the pupils without parental consent (see regulations to the Education Act §20-5).
Follow up and intervene
Everyone who works at the school must monitor how the students are doing and, if possible, intervene if someone is violating a student. Everyone who works at the school must report to the principal if they suspect or become aware that a student does not have a safe and good school environment. This also applies when a student themselves says that she or he is not doing well. The school must investigate the matter as soon as possible and rectify the situation with appropriate measures.
Activity plan
The school must create a written plan for the measures in a case. The plan must state:
- which problem the measures will solve
- which measures the school has planned
- when the measures are to be implemented
- who will implement the measures
- when and who will evaluate the measures
